The above algorithm reflects findings from a major systematic review comprised of 16 cohort studies and over 44 000 individuals with a follow-up interval of average 5.6 years (range 2.8-12 years). People with A1C between 5.5% and 6.0% had a substantially high risk of developing diabetes in the next five years (from 9% to 25%). Those individuals with an A1C range of 6.0% to 6.5% had 25-50% risk of 5 year incidence (43). The 2018 Guidelines also recommend that children should be screened for type 2 diabetes every two years using a FPG test if they have any of the following (44): • >3 risk factors in nonpubertal children beginning at eight years or >2 risk factors in pubertal children [ Grade D, consensus ]: o Obesity (BMI >95th percentile for age and gender) [ Grade D, Level 4] .
