It is important the diabetes team be cognizant of their own beliefs and barriers to initiating insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes. An awareness of the common personal barriers to starting insulin therapy can help the DHC team facilitate an open discussion with the individual regarding their fears and concerns. Table 12 lists common individual barriers to insulin initiation and educational strategies to address these concerns. Table 12. • Therapy can be individualized to a person’s needs, and people with diabetes can be taught to adjust insulin doses based on BG patterns.
