OBJECTIVES
Completion of this chapter should enable the learner to do the following: 1. Discuss current technology available for glucose monitoring: self-monitoring of capillary blood glucose (CBG), real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM), intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM). 2. Explain glycated hemoglobin (A1C). 3. Understand the rationale for ketone testing. 4. Discuss CBG - rationale and benefits. 5. Outline recommended testing schedules for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. 6. Discuss self-monitoring in patients with chronic kidney disease. 7. Recognize patterns in blood glucose and/or sensor glucose and use them for therapeutic decisions.
