A group problem-solving technique that involves the spontaneous contribution of ideas from all members of the group.

Actively involves learners.

May result in non-usable solutions.

Creates atmosphere conducive to freedom of expression and creativity. Fosters new ways of thinking. Helps identify workable solutions to problems.

Some learners may be unable or unwilling to participate. Facilitator needs to skillfully record group ideas and to find ways to separate ideas to keep/discard.

Can be fun.

Can be useful as an ice breaking exercise.

Values clarification (24,31,33,39) Purpose • To focus on process (beliefs/attitudes) rather than content. • To stimulate learners to explore their own values, attitudes and beliefs. • To stimulate self-awareness. • To facilitate social interaction. • To allow learners to validate their own/others attitudes/beliefs.
